MONTREAL / 5

Montreal loves any excuse to shut down a street and we Montrealers love walking down the middle of the street without getting hit by a car (though we already jaywalk any chance we get). Two weekends in a row most of the St Laurent Boulevard – aka the Main – was closed for the sidewalk sale and we got to soak in the sun while spending money and eating street food & mango on a stick. Summer in Montreal just can’t be beat.

  10. I miss Montreal. Its been over a decade since I visited as a teenager and I’ve been busy convincing my wife that should be our next big vacation. Me: it would be like going to France, but colder, so I won’t sweat as much! Her: Hmmm, we shall see.

    One day…

    • It’s actually been incredibly sweaty hot the last few weeks but we can’t complain (too much) after 8 months of cold. 😉

      • I love the cold so I only complain of the heat. Its been over ninety the last few weeks in New Jersey so I’ve been complaining like crazy.

    • I was just in Chicago this past weekend! There are so many different versions but I hope you get to try a good one your first time!

  14. As a Montreal expat now living in Anglophonia (I.e. Ontario), your great photos really brings back fond memories of Montreal’s summer humidity festival. Because of your photo of Schwarts’s, I’ll be heading down the the basement freezer to check if I have any smoked meat left over from the last care package my son brought me!

By the way, New Yorkers also love to shut the streets down during the summer for the street fairs. They migrate from one weekend to the next all over the city. Yummm, I miss the barbecued corn I used to get there, and the Nutella Crepes.
